Data Engineer – Life Sciences and Bioprocess Monitoring
Job Overview: We are seeking a Data Engineer passionate about the intersection of data and life sciences to support the Manufacturing Sciences team. This role focuses on configuring systems to organize manufacturing data and assist in bioprocess monitoring and analysis. The ideal candidate will leverage their data engineering and software development skills to solve complex problems in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with staff to understand workflows and manufacturing/lab-based questions, translating them into data solutions.
- Work as part of a global data engineering team to develop tools and systems that enhance operational performance, including KPIs such as capacity, quality, and productivity.
- Execute standard data engineering tasks such as data extraction, quality checks, and secure data exchanges, while contributing to data pipelines.
- Ingest and process data from various systems into Big Data platforms to support process improvements and analysis.
- Partner with data scientists to map data to hypotheses, and prepare data for advanced analytical models.
Qualifications & Skills:
- At least 1 year of experience in a biopharmaceutical production setting, with familiarity in process development or technical support.
- Understanding of statistical process control and data analysis techniques, and a strong desire to learn bioprocess operations.
- Proficiency in data analysis and experience with tools such as Python, C#, SQL, and cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with distributed processing (e.g., Spark, Hadoop), traditional RDBMS, NoSQL databases, and data warehousing/ETL processes.
- Experience working across diverse data types (structured, semi-structured, unstructured) and identifying linkages across disparate datasets.
- Knowledge of agile methodologies such as SCRUM is a plus.
Education & Experience:
- BS degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or related field.
- 4 years of experience with programming languages such as Python, C#, Javascript.
- 2 years of experience with SQL and data manipulation.
Location & Work Schedule:
- This is a hybrid role based in Carlsbad, CA, with 2-3 days a week required on-site.
